Empower & Encourage Mentor Program

Abstract: Throughout this project, we would need to work as a group, divide each section up, have good time management, and support each other. As a group, we choose to do a project related to a mentorship platform. To begin with, we first need to come up with a group agreement of how we choose to work it out, then split the section up, such as the Timeline, Abstract/Problem Statement, Budget, and the Project Narrative. Then the last part of this assignment was to create a presentation addressing was our project would be about to the class.

Abstract/ Problem Statement

Our project’s main goal is to assist the Bronx’s underprivileged teenagers. Families in the Bronx face the most financial difficulty compared to those in other New York boroughs. In the Bronx, more than 40% of children live in poverty. As a result, teenagers struggle in school and lose the desire to pursue their academic goals. This causes them to get more associated with street life because they believe that poverty will inevitably catch up with them as they reach college if they continue their education. As a result, they are more likely to take the easy route and lose interest in education. To change that, we have to focus on middle school students because that’s when students struggle to balance their independence as young adults, leading to attacking their identity. We want to provide a backbone that will sustain the posture of the student’s education and life. We notice that students start developing a character like never before, so catching students in middle school is the right time.

Our project focuses on teens who are struggling with school by providing them with an after-school program with sports activities, Art, homework help, Health food, and mentoring them about the importance of education to keep them motivated to continue their education.

Since our program would have a beneficial opportunity to serve youth and the community, our project priorities identify the issue. In addition, our program will keep students occupied with beneficial activities that will keep them healthier by supervising and building relationships with them to minimize harmful behaviors such as smoking and getting them off the streets. But also make sure they feel as if they are part of a family where young people could succeed.

First, we’ll create a list of all the goals we’re attempting to achieve, along with their specific deadlines. Second, we’ll map our progress from the starting point and see how far we’ve come in achieving these goals. For example, if we are behind on one goal, we will aim to concentrate harder on that goal to complete it on time.
